How to access files and folders on titania?
Last Updated 15 hours ago

List of available shares on titania

  • DFS: This is the only share required to connect. It allows access to all data, except to legacy user homes. It is a distributed filesystem namespace that also allows access data stored on other servers. On Windows computers that are a member of the campus domain DFS\Space is mapped as the network drive S: automatically and the Documents folder is redirected to the personal folder in DFS\UserHomes.
  • UserHomes: This share is only required for accessing legacy user homes.
  • Space: No more use this share, it is only used for backwards compatibility. It will be removed after a transition period. Access to all data is only ensured via the DFS share.
  • Software: No more use this share, it is only used for backwards compatibility. It will be removed after a transition period. Access software via DFS\Space\Software.

sAMAccountName

The sAMAccountName of your campus account is required on Linux or on a Mac to connect to titania. It looks something like hmuster or hm21h35t.

Linux

The preferred method for accessing the data is via AutoFS. Simply follow https://support.space.unibe.ch/scp/faq.php?id=14 for the configuration.

For connecting via file manager, typically a menu entry Connect to Server or similar is available. In the Nautilus file manager on Ubuntu 24.04 the server location can be entered after selecting + Other Locations:

Location: smb://titania.space.unibe.ch/DFS

User name: sAMAccountName

Domain: campus.unibe.ch

Password: your campus account password

Mac

In Finder select Go / Connect to Server... and enter the location smb://titania.space.unibe.ch/DFS

User name: sAMAccountName (do not include campus or campus.unibe.ch)

Password: your campus account password

Windows

Manual entering of the path on Windows is usually only required if the computer is not a member of the campus domain.

Enter \\titania.space.unibe.ch\DFS (this are backslashes!!!) in the empty space of the Windows explorer address field and press enter:
