Storage guidelines for the file server titania
Last Updated about a month ago

Our file server titania runs on a redundant storage system with higher costs than standard storage, and tape backups generate additional yearly expenses. To ensure efficient and appropriate use, the following rules apply:

Not permitted:

  • Storage of private or personal data (small amounts of data are tolerated)
  • Complete backups of computers
    • If you require full backups, please request an external hard drive instead

Monitoring:

  • Be aware that regular scans for file types will be conducted to identify violations of these policies

Data retention and responsibility:

  • The public staff folder and personal userhome directory will be deleted once a user leaves (the same applies for the personal data in OneDrive and the mailbox)
  • Users are responsible for ensuring that important data is stored in group or project folders, as these are the only locations intended for long-term, persistent storage
  • For legal reasons, IT support is not permitted to access personal data in the userhome, making this location inappropriate for storing project or group data (the same applies for the personal data in OneDrive)

Please make sure to follow these guidelines to help manage costs and to ensure efficient usage of our storage.
