Frequently Asked Question
This FAQ is based on this tutorial of the Informatikdienste (only available in German). See below for more details about the different user name types and formats. The terms are the same as used by the Informatikdienste to allow to distinguish the different account types.
sAMAccountName
Two formats exist: If for example a user with name Hans Muster starts in 2021, he would get a username like hm21h35t. If he has an older legacy account, it would be something like hmuster. The sAMAccountName is also used in combination with the domain name in the format campus\sAMAccountName.
User Principal Name (UPN)
The UPN is the same as the primary e-mail address und usually has the format firstname.lastname@unibe.ch
Switch edu-ID
The Switch edu-ID is an account that is independent of the university. It uses the e-mail address specified by the user during account creation.
